Announcing the Winner of the Seen Mentor Prize
And now…
…the winner of the Seen Mentor Prize is…
Nelson.
Some work stops you, it doesn't shout, it kind of whispers and it nestles inside you and it stays with you and you keep thinking about it and you hear it louder than everything else and this was the case with Nelson's work.
Her pieces are alive, delicate, raw, full of emotion. And even though I'm not entirely sure, I grasp her mission here, in fact, I know I don't, it feels like all of the work is about the spaces between being someone, a friend, a woman, a mother, a wife, the places we leave behind, the feelings we can't quite name or that we don't understand. It's all in her work and I'm so excited to connect with her honestly and share back with you all our conversations about her work.
This is an artist I am seriously excited about and I'm so glad she's on my radar now.
If you entered the Seen Mentor Prize, thank you. I created it because I know just how hard it can be to navigate the art world without real support and honest feedback in someone in your corner. And I wanted to provide that for artists who maybe couldn't afford one-to-one consults with people like me.
Honestly, even if you didn't win this time, I am so grateful to have discovered so many phenomenal artists. And I'm blown away by Nelson's work and the entire shortlist.
All of it, really, this has been such an epic process.
Thank you for letting your work be seen.
